“Everyone who is purchasing a house with a chimney should use Swept Away Chimney for inspection! Our home inspector (who is very reputable and great) was only able to comment that the chimney looked clean and looks good. Boy am I glad I had Spencer (one of the owners) evaluate with a camera what’s really going on inside the chimney! Most chimney companies will charge to clean and inspect, but Spencer said that he’ll only clean if it needs cleaning – all of our chimneys were clean because they weren’t used much. That said, the flue of the chimney needed to be repaired because there were gaps and there was no chimney cap in the chimney stacks. This would have been thousands of dollars of repair cost, which I wouldn’t have anticipated if I didn’t have Spencer check out the system thoroughly. They are certified, and it’s very important to know that the inspector is certified (and not just the company since a company can be “certified” with one inspector being officially certified).
